What can I cook on my COBB?

Our multi-functional, sophisticated cookers can literally cook anything on the COBB! It’s a portable cooking system that takes you out of the kitchen and gives you the freedom to prepare any dish, just about anywhere outdoors. See our blog “Why do we say COBB is your ultimate, All-in-one Cooker?” to see how many possibilities our cookers have. From frying to smoking, grilling, roasting, baking and boiling, the possibilities are endless!

The CobbleStones can be used instead of charcoal briquettes. Use one complete CobbleStone for meals. You can cook for up to 2 hours with a complete CobbleStone. It can also be broken in half for when you do cook bread/scones/cakes (smaller proportions) etc.

With the rapid ignition technology applied to our CobbleStones, the coal takes seconds to light. Once lit, it takes approx. 3 minutes to stop smoking and is ready for cooking in 5 minutes.

You can also use about 6-8 briquettes or around 300g of charcoal depending on what you want to cook. Use more for large pieces of meat/poultry and less for items like bread/scones/cakes etc.

The COBB is simple to light, here are 2 ways:

The CobbleStone: The CobbleStone uses rapid ignition technology. Hold a flame to it for 20 seconds and then place it into the Fire Grid once it starts self-igniting. Should you have any issues with the CobbleStone due to them being very old, use a thumb-nail-sized piece of firelighter in the base under the Fire Grid. This will have the CobbleStone alight in seconds.

Briquettes/Charcoal: Use 2 or 3 small pieces of firelighter placed on the base under the Fire Grid. Ignite these and place the Fire Grid, with your briquettes/charcoal in it, over the lit firelighters.

The COBB uses charcoal as a fuel source and as a result produces Carbon Monoxide, which is poisonous and can lead to serious adverse health effects and even death. However, the COBB Cooker is safe enough to use only AFTER the fuel source has stopped smoking – in a sheltered area, such as a balcony or under a patio roof, OR in a well-ventilated area (braai room) with enough air circulation and open windows.

The COBB has a built-in moat inside the Inner Sleeve, into which liquid can be added to facilitate with steaming or cooking. The moat is designed to hold about 200ml of liquid. Any more than this will result in some excess liquid leaking out the bottom.

The COBB and all its accessories are dishwasher safe, so it is very simple to clean. Alternatively, give the COBB Fast Acting Cleaner  a good shake, spray evenly onto the areas that need some cleaning, wait 15 minutes and then wipe with a wet cloth. Be careful using abrasive pads on certain parts as it could cause damage. For more details refer to the COBB User Manual included in the COBB Cooker box or view this video below () for a step-by-step guide.

The COBB is designed to be very economical and with one CobbleStone your cooking time can vary between 2 – 2 and a half hours. The same counts for as little as 300g of charcoal. It can be used for up to 2 hours depending on the cooking method, amount of food and cooking habits.

Yes, the COBB can be used as a smoker in addition to grilling, baking, roasting and stir-frying. To smoke, you need wood chips, smoke dust or smoke pellets. If you want to know more about smoking with the COBB, see our blog post How to turn your COBB into a portable smoker”.

The plastic ring is fitted with 3 or 4 rubbers (depending on the Top Ring you have). These rubbers ensure sufficient distance between the hot inner sleeve and the non-heat-resistant black plastic top ring on the casing. If the rubbers are not in the right place, are not present or are worn due to frequent use of the COBB, then there isn’t insufficient distance between the hot inner sleeve and the plastic ring. This can cause the ring to (partially) melt. If this is the case with you, please contact our customer service. Alternatively, you can purchase the spare part here

How long the rubbers of the top ring last depends on how often you use your COBB, how hot you fire your COBB and how you store your COBB. If you use your COBB regularly and raise the temperature properly by using the BBQ kit, for example, your rubbers will wear out faster. Regularly check the condition of your rubbers. If the rubbers are dented and there is a limited distance between the bowl and the top ring, then your rubbers need to be replaced.

Yes, all parts of the COBB are available separately and are therefore easy to replace if necessary. You can find all individual parts here.

Let the pizza stone preheat for at least 20 minutes. If it’s colder outside or the wind is blowing, preheat for 30 minutes.

Make sure the bottom dough is not too thick. The thinner the dough, the better the stone can extract moisture and the crispier the bottom will be.

Sprinkle some flour on the stone before placing the pizza on the pizza stone. This prevents sticking.

VERY IMPORTANT: Never submerge your pizza stone in water. Only use a slightly damp cloth to remove any food residue on the stone.
